Magical Mayor Candidate Loch David Crane appears at Del Mar Fair 2, 3, 4 July

Now that there are fourteen shiny new candidates who have filed their Intentions with the City Clerk to run for Mayor next year, the circus is officially in town.  Starting a year early to campaign, these front runners need to build name recognition, identify the issues they support, and try to get good press coverage.  This is your opportunity to see the ONLY Mayoral candidate who has run for the position FIVE times against all comers over the last 25 years.   And he is the ONLY candidate who performs Magic live on stage, closing out the Del Mar Fair on July 2, 3, and 4!

The show is sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Ring 76, and other Magicians have performed at the Fair before over the last two weeks.  Crane will PERFORM FROM 11:30 TO NOON ON THE PLAZA STAGE near the wafting aromas of the Mexican Food Court.  There is no charge for the show; it is included with your fair admission.

Loch David Crane performs Magic in any one of several characters including “Merlin-ye-Mage,” a medieval mind reader; “Bafflin’ Bill Cody,” a popular Western character; “the Magic Santa Claus” for later in the year; and “Mistoffelees the Magical Cat,” from the stage play Cats.  This summer he is introducing a new character: “Uncle Sam The Unique Sorcerer” who will appear in overalls trimmed with red sequins, a blue tail coat mounted with silver sequined stars, and a large Mad Hatter-type top hat, covered in red white and blue sequins.   Even the gay candidates for Mayor–and there are three or more of them–won’t dress up like this!

During his act professor Crane, who has been an English professor at San Diego State and National University for over 20 years, will exhibit rope escapes, card tricks, visual illusions, and mind reading.   Audience members will be invited on stage to act as volunteers, examining the props and looking for fakery. But there is none to be found. The act plays well for all ages of the family, and will charm children, amaze adults, and entertain everyone. If you’ve ever wanted to work on stage with a magician and either be an assistant or look for hidden tricks among the props– this is your opportunity.

With 50 years of experience as a performing magician, Crane has performed as “Bafflin’ Bill Cody” for Indian tribes from here to South Dakota with their respect and approval.   He has also donated dozens of troop shows to US bases in Germany while traveling, and many local bases from Yuma to Pendleton.  You may see Prof. Crane perform NOW ON YOU TUBE located under his name and under the character “Bafflin’ Bill Cody.”   Professor Crane’s entertainment web site is <www.MagicSantaClaus.com> and photos of his handbuilt roadster replica of the Starship Enterprise may be seen at  <www.Star-Trike.com>

Youtube videos of his most famous speeches  will show him lighting his speech on fire; performing a cut and restored Gypsy floss trick while talking about affirmative action and diversity; tearing into the Public Utility Commission, opposing yet another unnecessary rate hike by San Diego Greed and Excess (SDG+E); telling kids a bedtime story explaining earthquakes for a forum on the educational channel; and of course lighting his fingers on fire for KUSI TV.   Stunned by the screaming audience ovation, interviewer Marty Block asks “Mr. Crane, in the unlikely event that you do not win the election next week, will you be around again to run as mayor?”  Professor loch David Crane. M. Ed. of course said yes, and this 2012 will be his next attempt in his perennial run for the Mayor’s office.

Please feel free to attend any of these three public Magic shows at the Del Mar Fair, located on Via de la Valley north of San Diego.  And if you raise your hand, YOU TOO may be a volunteer on stage–with the next Mayor of San Diego, Loch David Crane!   Crane will also perform at 7pm on Friday, 5 August 2011 at the On Broadway/Zen CafĂ© at 615 Broadway,  231-0011.  There is a $15 door charge or $10 online; full dinners, sushi, and drink menu are available, with dancing afterwards.
